Hello, we’re Re:String

Nice to meet you
We are

A Singapore guitar ensemble built around music we love and people we love playing it with.

Re:String members together before their concertPre-concert shot!

How it all started

Some friendships
deserve an encore.

Re:String began with a group of NTU Guitar Ensemble alumni who wanted to continue playing guitar together. The music and friendship didn’t have to stop after university.

Our ensemble has since opened its doors to the public. You can be completely new to guitar, finding your way back to it, or looking for people to share your favourite music with.

Our unofficial house rules

Enjoy the process.
Look out for each other.

Fun is part of practice.

There’s room for a laugh while we learn. Wrong notes are part of the process, and we work through them together.

Stay humble, stay curious.

Everyone has something to learn and something to share. We listen with an open mind and give each other patience and encouragement.

Focus helps us grow.

A little focus helps us enjoy the music even more. We make time to practise our parts, ask questions, and build confidence together.

An introduction to guitar ensemble

One guitar family.
Many different voices.

A Niibori guitar ensemble brings together guitars of different pitches. Think of it as an orchestra: each of these sections contributes its own special voice to the sound of the ensemble.

Alto
High voices that play the melody and harmonies.
Prime
Bearing a standard tuning, typically plays the chords and arpeggios.
Bass
Tuned a fifth below the prime, typically plays bass lines and occasional melodies for a different timbre.
Contrabass & Guitarron
Lower voices that build the foundation of the rhythm for the ensemble with deep bass notes.
Cembalo
A distinctive, shimmering voice using metal strings.
